Quarantine: Walking Observation - An Audio Visual Experience

A daily ritual…

Like many of us, I have been spending my time during this quarantine busying myself with small projects and doing a lot of self reflecting. Last weekend I strung together a series of images with some ambient audio and made a simple mindfulness video showcasing some quiet moments that I’ve been capturing while undertaking my new daily ritual of hiking the neighborhood .

Each afternoon I have been taking the opportunity to relax my mind and practice both mindfulness and composition by getting outside and walking a three mile loop around my neighborhood.

Bringing a camera along fixed with a single lens, and forcing myself to pay attention to what’s often overlooked, I’ve challenged myself to find compositions out in my ordinary surroundings. My aim has been to capture a strong image each afternoon and hold no attachment to the end result. Just relaxing my mind and watching the environment change day to day. The practice has been rewarding and the stillness it brings is welcomed.

A reprieve through a screen…

I realize a lot of us are under a great deal of stress and unable to have access to such immediate natural beauty so I wanted to create something and share with you these images and experiences and hopefully some peacefulness that they brought to me.

As an artist this was something I found I could try and offer to others during this time of distancing and lock down. This is my attempt to deliver some peace of mind. A reprieve through a screen. A break from the uncertainty and hopefully some added calm.

About The Project:

The video is just shy of seven minutes long and comprised of nine images slowly passing on the screen. It’s been designed to be a mindfulness exercise so take your time. It has been overdubbed with deep ambient bells and I also layered in and mixed some audio from nature recordings that I have been capturing to enhance the sensory experience. This video makes for a great mindfulness getaway while on your computer when displayed fullscreen and with headphones. It makes for a nice meditation anchor while you sit with your phone and if you have a big TV with a sound system, you’re in for a treat. Highly recommend viewing in the dark. Either way, It’s a decent resolution, has sound, and is here for you when you need a break.

Enjoy and be safe.

Peace, Love,
