As someone who grew up on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia but has called Seattle home for the last 15+ years, the preservation of wetlands has always been close to my heart. So when Parametrix hired me to help create a visual storytelling campaign for their new branding, I was thrilled to get the chance to shadow a team of environmental scientists at the Nisqually River Delta—a protected stretch of land where you need a permit to even step foot. Watching these highly skilled scientists map wetlands, track water flow, and measure the impact of future infrastructure upgrades was inspiring. The precision and care they brought to balancing engineering with ecology reminded me why sustainable infrastructure matters. For me, it was also a rare opportunity to put down the tripod and shoot more freely—blending my professional work with the personal style I’ve developed over the years. The images have since become a key part of Parametrix’s rebranding, helping them communicate not just the technical side of their work but the deeper story of how science and engineering can work with nature rather than against it. Capturing that balance—between progress and preservation—felt like coming full circle. Seattle is my home base, but I’m grateful to have grown my career and established a second office back East, bringing my expertise home to support firms around the Chesapeake Bay. As we expand as a country, we must address growth—but not at the expense of our most sacred assets like land and antiquities.
